DIY Artist Drying Rack

For years, my paintings have been scattered around my dining room waiting to dry so they could be shipped.  Then, back in March, we purchased a new dining set (a post on that later). The thought of wet paint touching this new dining table made me have nightmares.  I really needed a drying rack for my paintings and so the search began...I found this one for a little over $200:

and this one:
for a $133.99

I really couldn't afford to put that much money into one, so this is what I came up with:

I purchased 1 inch wooden blocks and 16x20 masonite boards.
I simply glued the blocks to each corner, building from the bottom.  I only did three layers, but I am planning to add to it at a later time.
It's small enough to fit on the top of my painting table, and just these three layers hold a lot of paintings and it's working great for my needs.

Hope you like it too!

Free Strawberry Themed Printable Blank Recipe Card

Hi Everyone, I apologize for the long delay between posts.  Things have been so busy. I spent most of the winter with bronchitis and pneumonia and on May 16, my grandfather underwent a triple heart bypass and replacement valve surgery.  He's doing Great!  It was very hectic and chaotic, but now things are starting to calm down a bit.  All these happenings had me late on some of my artwork orders, but I'm happy to report that I am completely caught up and now working on orders that are currently due.  Yahooo!

I did want to offer you a free printable 4x6 Strawberry themed blank recipe card today.
This way overdue, but I'm hoping that you'll be able to jot down some of those great strawberry recipes I've been seeing on the blog link parties.

So, here it is.....

Crustless Coconut Pie Recipe

If you like coconut, this might be the easiest recipe for a quick dessert!  The nice thing about this recipe is that you more than likely have the ingredients already on hand.  The bisquick and eggs combine to make the "crust", and with only 3/4 cup sugar, it's not too sweet. It reminded me of an egg custard pie with coconut.  I actually ate a slice the other morning for breakfast.  It tastes great with a dollop of cool whip and my morning cup of coffee... So here's the free printable recipe card for it too!

My walkway for less than 94 bucks!

Back in October 2010, our foundation shrubs were getting to be a bit too big. My husband decided to dig all of them out...  Here's what it looked like after:

We definitely need some curb appeal, so I headed to Lowe's to see what I could come up with.   It just so happened that Lowe's was having a 20% off sale on their patio stones.  Here's what I purchased:
138 Harvard paving bricks at 18 cents each!! yes, 18 cents!
138 paver bricks $24.84
29 12x12 patio stones in red and gray  $34.22
4 16x16 patio stones $11.12
2 bags rock base and 2 bags Pea gravel  $16.90
Landscaping fabric $0.00 (already had some)
1 bag of paving sand $0.00 (already had some)
Sales tax at 7%  $6.10
Grand total:  a whopping $93.18

(the birdbath fountain was purchased at Lowe's in September for $20.00.)

Here's what we did for less than $94.00.....we used the paver bricks to outline our foundation plantings, and used them to outline the "walkway".  We then laid double layers of landscaping fabric down.  We did not dig or level, because our front lawn is very flat.

We then started at the front steps and placed four 16x16 patio stones, as a landing pad and then proceeded to placed the 12x12 diagonally until we reached the stopping point, which was the mailbox.  The areas that didn't have patio stones were filled in with rock base and sand, and swept into the spaces between the stones. We then topped them off with pea gravel.  We then watered everything down.  Probably not the "proper" way to do it, but it's been there since October 2011 and it's still working great...with no problems at all.

And now... the final photos....
Our new walkway for under $94.00 and we love it.

Our home needs a little TLC, so this spring, the front porch and door will be painted and some new plantings will go in.  I will update you all in Spring.
bricks used to outline our foundation plantings and filled in the area with mulch
Our diagonally placed patio stone walkway with pea gravel

Our new walkway...
Have a great evening everyone!  I'd love to hear your thoughts on what we did!
